It’s my birthday, so it’s fun list time! As many manga fans know, before manga are collected into Tankobon (volumes), they are first released in individual magazine chapters. Popular shoujo magazines are typically released on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. The following list will dive into some of the most popular shoujo magazines and some of the series they are most known for
5. Bessatsu Friend & Bessatsu Margaret
The gems published under these two magazines include Perfect Girl Evolution A.K.A. The Wallflower (Bessatsu Friend), Orange (Bessatsu Margaret), Peach Girl, and even Kimi Ni Todoke, to name a few.
4. Lala & Lala DX
Lala/Lala DX publishes some of my faves regarding aesthetically pleasing manga. Including Ouran High School Host Club, Vampire Knight/Vampire Knight Memories, and Kaichou Wa Maid Sama!
3. Ribon
This magazine is the home of my favorite mangaka, Arina Tanemura, whose translated works include Full Moon O Sagashite and The Gentlemen’s Alliance Cross. Another gem from this magazine is Aishiteruze Baby!
2. Nakayoshi
I like to refer to this magazine as the Magical Girl Zasshi because they published Sailor Moon and the original Cardcaptor Sakura. They even published Shugo Chara.
1. Hana To Yume
I’ve mentioned Hana To Yume before in a previous post but it is just that good. This magazine has brought us the likes of Fruits Basket, Hana Kimi, and Skip Beat! 3 manga that helps define the shoujo genre, in my opinion.
This is a list of my personal favorite shoujo magazines, but they are certainly not the only ones. If you love shoujo, chances are you have read manga from one or all of these magazines.
