Love In Focus, Vol. 1 Review

Mako Mochizuki is never without her camera having inherited a love of photography from her grandfather.  She leaves home to attend a high school with a prestigious photography club. With the help of her friend Kei. She moves into a boarding house where he and other students of her new high school reside. The majority of them are photography club members. There, she meets Amemura Kun officially. (she accidentally took a photo of him after seeing an adorable dog) who hates photography despite being man-pretty.

Amemura being man-pretty.

Turns out that Mako and Amemura Kun are classmates. Her childhood friend Kei is protective of her, and He and Mako are mistaken on more than one occasion for being a couple. The more Mako spends time with Amemura Kun, the more compelled she feels to take his picture. Kei points out that this is the first time Mako has taken an interest in a person as a photography subject.

We learn that Amemura Kun hates photos because he used to be a child model and actor, but the stress became too much for him. This explanation makes sense. My original guess was that his parents were in the industry. He agrees to let Mako take his picture under the condition that he doesn’t have to take off his glasses or tie back his hair. This leads Mako to sometimes take photos when he doesn’t expect it. After a classic fall and now we’re invading each other’s personal space moment, between Mako and Amemura Kun, Kei declares that Amemura can’t have Mako.

Overall impressions: I love the art and story so far. Looks like it is shaping up to be a good classic love triangle. Which is one of my favorite tropes when done well. Even the color pages are aesthetically pleasing.
